Quotes . . . .
An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. ~Bill Vaughan
Many people look forward to the new year for a new start on old habits. ~Author Unknown
A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. ~Author Unknown
Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin
No one ever regarded the First of January with indifference. It is that from which all date their time, and count upon what is left. It is the nativity of our common Adam. ~Charles Lamb
New Year's Day is every man's birthday. ~Charles Lamb
Never tell your resolution beforehand, or it's twice as onerous a duty. ~John Selden
Happiness Depends on More than Years
Happiness depends on more than years. All one's moments gather to a wave.
Passing in a rolling swell of tears, Passions too immense to name or save.
Yet New Year's is a crest on which to sing, Now poised between the future and the past.
Each awaits what course the fates may bring,Winds that never touch the things that last.
Years turn and turn with an hypnotic grace, Even as the depths of life lie still.
Although above one cannot silence face, Remember that below the divers will.
New Years Are a Chance for a Beginning
Even when there hasn't been an end.
Wheels turn in an interminable bend,
Yet, marked in one spot, seem to wobble spinning.
Each year we hope to do a little better
Although we know that really nothing's changed.
Reason thinks that everything's arranged,
So we must dream if we would fate unfetter.

Presents . . . . .
Christmas Is a Time for Love and Fun
Christmas is a time for love and fun,
A time to reshape souls and roots and skies,
A time to give your heart to everyone
Freely, like a rich and lavish sun,
Like a burning star to those whose lonely sighs
Show need of such a time for love and fun.
For children first, whose pain is never done,
Whose bright white fire of anguish never dies,
It's time to give your heart to every one,
That not one angel fall, to hatred won
For lack of ears to listen to her cries,
Or arms to carry him towards love and fun,
Or friends to care what happens on the run
To adult life, where joy or sadness lies.
It's time to give your heart to everyone,
For God loves all, and turns His back on none,
Good or twisted, ignorant or wise.
Christmas is a time for love and fun,
A time to give your heart to everyone.

Retailer closes its 2 local stores
The remaining Columbus stores, on Westerville Road on the North Side and on North Boulevard on the West Side, ended business by offering discounts that they said were up to 95 percent off in the final two days. A store associate at the Kettering store in the Dayton area said that yesterday also was its last day.
A representative at Value City's Columbus headquarters did not return calls seeking comment on the status of the rest of the stores. Since filing for bankruptcy in October, the company has declined to provide specifics about when stores would close and whether all of them would cease operations. According to the Value City Web site yesterday, there were 38 remaining locations, down from more than 100 a year ago.
In documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York on Friday, Value City said it was rejecting the leases of about 30 stores as of the end of this week. In a number of cases, Schottenstein Stores Corp. is listed as the landlord or manager of the property.
The Value City chain grew out of the original Schottenstein's store in Columbus. It was spun off from privately held Schottenstein Stores to become part of Retail Ventures as the chain grew. Retail Ventures paid a group of private-equity firms to take the struggling discounter off its hands in January.
Value City Furniture is a separate entity controlled by Schottenstein's Chief Executive Jay Schottenstein. It is not affected by the bankruptcy.

NEW RAPE SCAM!!!!PLEASE READ!!!!!
NEW RAPE SCAM!!!!PLEASE READ!!!!!
Please pass on to all your girlfriends, wives, etc. Just to be on the safe side. Please be aware and pass it on to anyone you think this will help.
Sunday afternoon around 5 PM I headed into the Target in
It was still light outside and I parked fairly close to the entrance. As I got out of my car and began walking towards Target, an older lady shouted to me
from the passenger seat of a car about 30 feet away from me.
'Ma'am you must help me, help me please, help me Ma'am!' I looked at her in the eyes and started to walk towards her when al l of a sudden I remembered
an email my Mom had sent me a week or two ago about rapists and abduct ions using elder people to lure women in.
I paused, memorized the license plate and immediately headed into Target to get a manager to come help this lady, just in case something was up.
While the woman manager headed out there, I kept a close watch just because I was curious what was wrong with the lady and wanted to be sure nothing happened.
As the Target lady walked up towards the car and got very close to the old woman in order to help her, the back door of the car flies open and a large man
with a stocking cap on, jumps out and sticks a gun to the lady's stomach as he shoves her into the back of the car.
I yelled out 'call 911' several times and just as I was saying that, a policeman who happened to be on the other side of the parking lot! And who, luckily
had seen the entire thing happen, raced over to the car.
He was able to stop the car and arrest the male as well as the old lady, who was involved in the scheme. By God's grace everyone was all right, including myself, although I think we were both shaken up.
Like many of you, I would not in a million years have left an elderly person who was yelling for help if it weren't for the e-mail I had read last week.
So, I wanted to pass this along so you all can be aware and remember that you really can't trust anyone these days.
You just never know when something like this could happen. I would have never dreamed it to happen to me especially on a Sunday afternoon at a Target in a safe area!
It definitely was not a coincidence that my Mom sent that email just a few days before this all happened. Please, be careful and always be aware of your surroundings.
Just because you individually don't go over to help someone doesn't mean you have to leave them in trouble , but don't go ALONE, you really don't know what might be going on.
This was checked with Snopes.com -
this is true - and they also use children to lure the victim!!
Retail Ventures' stock rises after purchase of 2 million shares
The purchases, made Monday and last Friday, sent the stock of Retail Ventures -- which had closed at under $1 for the two days prior to Schottenstein's purchases -- soaring. It closed at $3.06 today.
Like that of most retailers, Retail Ventures' stock has been trading at very low levels in recent months. It has fallen as low as 90 cents, down from a 52-week high of $7.46.
Michael Broidy, a vice president of privately held Schottenstein Stores who acts as a spokesman for Schottenstein, did not return a call seeking comment on the stock purchases. In October, Schottenstein bought more than 1 million shares of stock in shoe retailer DSW, which trades separately but is controlled by Retail Ventures.
Robert Shook, a Columbus-based business author who sat on the board of Retail Ventures for several years beginning in the 1990s, said that to an outsider, Schottenstein's move would seem to be a vote of confidence for Retail Ventures.
"He must think it's a good value, and he would know more than most people," Shook said.

Value City Department Stores Close

COLUMBUS, Ohio—It’s been two months since Value City Department Stores filed for bankruptcy and the company closed its last two locations Tuesday.
The locations that closed included the stores on Innis Road and West Broad Street, NBC 4‘s Tanya Hutchins reported.
Longtime Columbus residents consider the company an institution. Value City Department Stores’ liquidation sale has items for 90 percent off, including all fixtures, furniture and equipment.
The signs were unavoidable and there was no shortage of shoppers.
“It was pretty bare. I’m used to a ton of stuff. There are people rummaging through everything. They’re selling wallpaper for 90 cents that’s supposed to go for $40. It’s pretty crazy in there and I got a bunch of dresses that go for $60 for $1.97,“ said Samantha Dress, a shopper.
The company wouldn’t comment Tuesday, but said when it filed for bankruptcy that it couldn’t handle the current financial crisis.
“I think that Value City has been a staple in Columbus for a long time. It’s kind of Columbus’ history, so it is really sad to see it go,“ said Dana Mason, an area resident.
Now, shoppers have to find a new department store and employees have to find new jobs.
