Retail Ventures today reported a loss of $43.9 million for its first fiscal quarter, compared with earnings of $29.2 million in the year-ago period. The loss was 90 cents per common share compared with earnings of 56 cents per share a year ago.
Revenue for the 2009 period came to $385.8 million compared with $366.3 million a year ago.
The earnings were released late this afternoon, after the stock market had closed. Shares closed down 21 cents, or 6.7 percent, at $2.95 and slid another 5 percent in after-hours trading.
The company's fiscal quarter ended May 2. Just a couple of weeks earlier, Columbus-based Retail Ventures shed its Filene's Basement business, leaving shoe retailer DSW as its primary focus.
