THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Nationwide will eliminate 30 financial-service jobs at its Grove City operation and shift the work, mostly in the accounting field, to a company based in India.
"We continue to work on our efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and it is in our best interest to outsource selected noncustomer-facing functions in the finance organization over the course of 2010," said Nationwide spokesman Eric Hardgrove.
He declined to give the name of the Indian company.
About 250 financial-service employees work at Nationwide's office in Grove City, Hardgrove said.
The 30 employees were told in November that the layoffs were coming.
"They haven't been given their (official) notice yet but will be informed at some point this month," Hardgrove said. "We understand this will be difficult for these associates, and we plan to be as supportive as possible."
Columbus-based Nationwide has a total of about 35,000 employees, with 11,000 in central Ohio. In April, the company announced it was cutting 480 jobs, including 150 in the Columbus area.
No other layoffs are currently called for, Hardgrove said.
"Our goal, when possible, is to grow our associate base, and we're doing that in some areas, such as staffing and underwriting," he said.
